Speech Language Therapy

An appointment is enclosed for you to attend the Speech and Language Therapy Department at Speech Plus.

You will be seen by the Speech and Language Therapist who will be responsible for your assessment and treatment.

What is speech and language therapy?

Speech and language therapy is concerned with the management of disorders of speech, language, and communication and swallowing in children and adults.

Who is a speech language Pathologist?

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), also called speech and language therapists or speech therapists, specialize in the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders and swallowing disorders.

Speech Language Pathologists are health care professionals who have obtained 4 years of Bachelor Degree course in Speech Language Pathology and a two year Master Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Calcutta University and West Bengal University of Health Sciences respectively.

Before your appointment

If you are unable to attend for any reason, please let us inform before 24 hours by contacting the department on the number on the back of this leaflet. If you fail to attend an appointment without informing us you will be discharged from our service.

Please bring your registration card and/or prescription of the consultant with you on each visit. If you forget to bring the same you may be returned/sent back without a therapy session because the prescription contains the treatment plan that will help the speech therapist to know the child’s ongoing treatment status.

Your appointment

Please attend promptly for your appointment and report to the Speech and Language Therapy reception when you arrive. We try, as far as possible; to see people on time however a waiting time of half an hour to 40 minutes should be expected. Because not all patients are the same & it is our aim to provide a customized method to nourish every patient’s need, so time may vary individual to individual.

Your appointment will last for 20-30 minutes. On your first visit you or your patient will be assessed and then will be offered a course of treatment and further appointments. If there is anything you do not understand about your treatment, please feel free to ask. If you are offered for further appointments book your appointment immediately before you leave the reception desk.

After your appointment

If you are given exercises to do at home, you will be expected to do these on a regular basis.

If you have any questions or concerns before your next appointment you can contact the department on the number below.

After a course of treatment you will be discharged from the Speech and Language Therapy department but you can contact us if you have any further problems.
